An athlete came out today and said, “I’m dating a guy.” This - TopicsExpress

An athlete came out today and said, “I’m dating a guy.” This struck me in a different way than any other highly regarded person coming out. I’ve been playing the scenario out in my head over and over again thinking of the possible outcomes of what I want to say and it brings up the point of “why should I have to say it anyways”? Pope Francis said, “Who am I to judge?” I left out the seeking god part. Many know I’m atheist, even those that would prefer me not to be. I don’t seek any god; I merely seek to be happy. The only reason I’ve kept this under wraps is for the protection of my mother, for internal reasons. She has known about this, like most of my friends. Here in Lincoln I’m proud to say that I have three supporting best friends, and a bunch back home. I live for the day best put by actor Josh Hutcherson, “I’m sick of saying the words gay and lesbian, it’s just people…One day I want my son to come home from school and be like, ‘Dad, I found this guy and I love him.’ And I’ll be like, ‘Yes, you do and that’s OK!’ I so want that.” This is just my life. I dont seek support or hate, keep that to yourselves. And, before I even had to say this, did this topic about me keep you up at night? For those of you who didn’t know this about me yet, to you five minutes ago I was straight, but now I’m gay. Does this really change anything about me other than the person I bring home? Regardless, the French vanilla cappuccino in the dining hall is still going to taste great tomorrow morning.
