An authors secret: Choosing the recipes to be photographed for a - TopicsExpress

An authors secret: Choosing the recipes to be photographed for a book is an art. Not only do the recipes have to be photogenic, but as the author, you are also aware that the recipes that tend to be tried FIRST by readers are those that have accompanying photographs. For instance, I would have chosen my Chocolate Bread Pudding from The Joy of Vegan Baking to be photographed, because I want everyone to try it, but its not exactly the most photogenic. Of course a good photographer is essential, but there are so many components to think about, including having a variety of different types of recipes throughout the book, choosing the right setting/materials/plates/background/textures for the food being shot, etc. So, heres a fun way to get inside my head (I warn you; its a dangerous place): one of my new recipes in my new book is Apple Breakfast Cake (similar to a coffee/crumb cake). How would you shoot it (or like it to be shown as a photograph)?
