You sure got Dad & Mom beat with this :-) While you bask in the glow of this win and the selection, I cannot help but take note of a very important lesson that stems from this, a lesson that you largely scripted. Almost every given day of practice over the last year or two, I am sure you were one among the very few girls in a field primed for boys. Most of the other days you were probably the only lonely girl battling many odds to be taken seriously at what you wanted and loved to do. With time even we, as parents began doubting the wisdom of the choice for you to continue to play. Standing there with that trophy in hand, even if you never ever step beyond the frame of that picture, it was certainly worth it to stay and play. Its a moment that you will cherish and an experience that you will use to draw from and build on. I stand thankful learning from your sheer enthusiasm that my own doubt, bias or negativity, however slight or shrouded it may have been, needed to be re-calibrated! In a world that is challenged to think of saving a girl-child, you indirectly challenged me/us to go beyond and preserve equality. To not deny you an opportunity for being a girl that would never be denied to a boy. Keep kicking! Love Dad!
