An elderly pensioner was robbed of hundreds of pounds in Hyde town centre. Shortly after 11.10am on 2 December 2014, the victim, 70, was followed off the 201 bus and onto John Kennedy Road. The man was then wrestled to the ground by the offender, who removed £800 out of his pockets before running off. Police were called and a man was arrested nearby and hundreds of pounds recovered. Detective Constable Marc Barker, said: “The victim was handling his cash before he was robbed and this was most likely what alerted the offender. “Thankfully he was not seriously injured and the offender was arrested a short time later. “However, with people likely to be carrying cash around to do their Christmas shopping I would urge extra caution and vigilance. “If you intend to carry large amounts of money around please to do so discreetly, taking extra care not to let others see what you are carrying. If possible try to avoid doing so, paying by card instead.”
