An encounter broke out between militants and government forces in Chinigam village of Frisal in this South Kashmir district on Thursday. “On a specific tip off about the presence of militants in Chinigam village of Frisal, Yaripora Army’s 1 RR , Special Operation Group (SOG) of police and 18 Btn CRPF cordoned off the area and launched searches,” a police official said. He said as the search was on, the militants holed up inside a house fired towards the forces. “The fire was retaliated triggering an encounter which is on,” a police official said this evening. The heavy exchange of fire, which started at around 4:00 pm, was on till late evening. The number of militants believed to be holed up in the house is three to four, said the police official. “We have tightened the cordon and operation may be suspended for the night due to darkness,” the official said.
