An epiphany of sorts while I gently boiled in my bath. People who vote for UKIP. They do so because they have watched their communities wrenched apart. Where families and friends have had to move away for work, for homes they can afford to live in, for schools where their children might risk a decent education. They are angry, they dont know who to blame. The papers/media are insidious. Creeping in - telling you about those immigrants... about the Muslims and the Polish and the Romanians. They stopped telling you about the Jamaicans and the Africans as much because thats almost been socially derided. I say almost. It still goes on. And you look at these families and see them united in their communities, where they work together in the family business and invest in their children and you wonder why they have those luxuries when you dont . You dont realise that over the past few years, with work drying up in the north while its left to rot your family have scattered, your neighbours have been forced away because of the bedroom tax or because their estates have been sold to private investors who promise affordable housing, but instead knock down your family home and replace it with buy to lets and shared ownership properties that are still too expensive for most people to buy. Your communities are destroyed but its not the immigrants that do this. This is your government. This is a class war - but its got nothing to do with immigration. Its all to do with the rich ruling classes seeing you as nothing but a commodity. Youre a number. Youre a statistic. You are cattle. And if you think that UKIP or the BNP or any of those right wing fools will lift you out of poverty, loneliness and desperation then youre only fooling yourself. They dont work for you anymore than the Tories, Labour or Lib Dems do.
