The point to be made is this: Comparing American students to others in foreign countries is like comparing apples and oranges. Foreign students are in the classroom from 8 AM to 5 PM, foreign schools do not sponsor school sports, at the 6th grade foreign students are tested- the more academic students are moved on to a more rigorous academic school- those who fail are moved to vocational schools; another test occurs in the 8th grade with the same results; and another test occurs in 12th grade. The students who pass go to State Universities at no cost; those that dont pass -if they can--come to the US to be college educated because they are not allowed in their countrys schools. Another point-- there are no Special Ed programs in foreign schools. In America, we educate and test EVERYONE! So no, our test scores dont look rosy.... but take into account that every one of our scores count--in foreign countries, only the cream of the crop scores are counted...So quit the comparisons because they arent valid from the get go!
