An essay I wrote about being a fan and my personal experiences :) Stars On Earth Have you experienced admiring someone popular? Someone who’s miles away from you? With so many fans around him, not knowing you exist? Sometimes you want to have him? Sometimes you also think you are in love with that popular guy living miles and miles from you surrounded by thousands of fans? Times when you heard he got hurt and wanted to help him, but impossible to freaking do? Have you also experienced raising your fangirling/fanboying spirit by attending concerts and performances of your admired celebrities and not having a single penny in your wallet? Maybe buying posters and other merchandise? Maybe some of you experienced these kind of issues that an international fan is presently experiencing. Now, let’s talk about my experiences of being one of a fan of famous people of today. It was in 7th grade when I was first exposed to Korean Pop Music. One of my classmates recommended this kind of music and being so curious, I decided to search online. That time I found the first music video of Girls’ Generation that I saw which is entitled Run Devil Run. I searched every member’s info of this splendid girl group that caught my taste of music. I downloaded their music, music videos, watched every single interview with them, downloaded pictures of them and stalk them every day. It was hard being a fan at first because we didn’t have internet connection at home so I have to make reasons for my parents to let me go to the computer shop that time. But suddenly I began to be very curious about their personal life. I began to stalk them to whom they were dating, who are they off camera and other personal matters. I suddenly had the urge to go to Seoul and meet them, but I realized it was impossible. I decided to limit myself and be an ordinary international fan and focus your eyes on the monitor every so often. When I started 8th grade, I met a friend who’s also a kpoper (Korean Pop Fan). I asked her what is her fandom and she told me she is an EXOTIC which is the fandom of EXO. I began to be very curious again, so I searched online and I found out that this group is the most attractive and talented kpop boy group I’ve ever seen. I searched each member. At first, I thought they all looked completely the same. I picked a bias. He is so cool, handsome, tall, and has that deep, husky, manly voice that every fan girl could melt for whenever he raps and sings. I admired their group and stalk them every day in front of the computer including their personal life. I began to be very obsessed with them and badly wanted to go to Seoul and meet them and all that things obsessed people could think. But this time, I decided to limit myself for the last time. I realized that whatever you do, that certain person will be miles away from you. He will only be a successful young man/woman who roams around the world to showcase his/her talent and you’ll only face the computer all throughout the day. Someday he will have his own life and marry someday while you will just have your own life. He will never know you and you could only look at him with pure admiration. He will always be a star. A star which is out of reach. Just like a star on Earth. Admin Chan~
