An exciting loan for the Bexley Museum collection...one of our walking sticks is to temporarily sit alongside the auto-icon of Jeremy Bentham, the philosopher and jurist who died in 1832. He wished for his body to be dissected and then preserved by his medical friend after he died, and to be turned into an auto-icon. He is on display at UCL Museums and Collections (University College London) for all to see, 182 years after he died! Our walking stick replaces Bentham’s own beloved stick ‘Dapple’ whilst it is temporarily part of another exhibition at UCL. Our stick is currently in the freezer, as is standard museum practice, to make sure no pests are introduced into the display case. New images and a blog link to follow when the walking stick is displayed!
