An extravaganza of summer entertainment in the town centre A packed programme of free shows are on offer in the Market Place Shopping Centre and on Deansgate for the remainder of August to entertain families. A host of popular street performers will be strutting their stuff from tomorrow, Thursday 15 August up until Friday 30 August. The varied line-up has something to please all including magicians, comedians, an escapologist, jugglers, clowns, and balloonists, topped off with some fabulous Latin music and a dazzling percussion outfit who perform on stilts! The fun kicks off on Thursday 15 with Chris Cross who will perform his unique, specialty act of magic, contortion and escapology. Combining quick wit and comedy with jaw-dropping stunts delivered in a screwball manner, his show should appeal to all ages and keep people fascinated throughout. On Saturday 17 talented balloon twister Bob Wooding will be creating all kinds of shapes and sizes with balloons for young children all free of charge! Joining Bob on Saturday will be Drum Machine, the percussion fusion band from Hebden Bridge who return to entertain shoppers once again with their hypnotic beats. On Monday 19, sure to bring a smile to any onlooker, are the Rapide Brothers, Ian and Gavin Radforth, professionally known as Izzo and Malteser, who are skilled clowns, jugglers and unicyclists. On Thursday 22 world percussionists Battuta will be performing their carnival-style Latin/funk repertoire. The music combines powerful rhythms from Brazil, Cuba and West Africa and original horn section melodies from around the globe to get feet tapping. Wandering vagabond Gary Bridgens will be entertaining audiences on Wednesday 28 with his walkabout show - Trunks, a family friendly collection of curious songs, tales and routines. Offering a classic variety show, he will proudly promenade with Dolly, his perambulator of performance. And to finish it all off on Friday 30 August will be the spectacular Stilt Batteristas, a world class percussion and performance group who perform on stilts! Their unique instruments, costumes and street rhythms will combine with some dazzling stilt choreography to delight the crowd. This is just a flavour of the wide range of performers visiting the town centre.
