An interesting discussion I had yesterday with a less than interesting fellow in a totally shambolic restaurant in Lagos... he said... Jude things are happening for you right now, you have to capitalise on it, seize the moment, try involve yourself in Goodluck Jonathans campaign, they need someone like you who chews words like groundnut and when you spit them out, they are like diamonds... you will become a millionaire in dollars over night... see Reuben Abati... this is Nigeria... no where in the world can you make a fortune overnight... God is the one that has brought you back home to turn your life around for the better... ... he went on and on, as though he were an Evangelist rabidly focused on saving my life, which he believed was dangling between the pit of hell and the bejeweled avenues of heaven... there was a visible tic in his left eye, it twitched with every damned word that escaped his salivating lips... it twitched so hard as he vociferously tried to convince me to retrogress from human to animal, that I feared he was going to fall off his chair and flap around on the floor in an epileptic fit... I looked at the card he had earlier handed to me... his name boldly written on it started with the title... Reverend Pastor... I sat there marveling at the chameleonic attributes of the Devil... depravity painted in sanctity... evil wearing the toga of good... greed hiding behind the shadow of empty generosity... and when I finally said to him...I will think about it... he responded just before he greedily gulped down his bottle of Star... The devil is a liar, that prize is yours, it will open doors for you and OUR lives will never be the same... there was the emphasis on the OUR, evidently he had already made me part of his family... I didnt respond with an AMEN and he didnt seem to notice, to him he had stated a fact and God had no choice but to make it come to pass... the servant running roughshod over the master... this gentleman who had gone to school with me aeons ago and was reuniting with me for the first time in that much a time... stood up in a fierce urgency, announced that he had to run for a house fellowship and with the force of a hurricane, leaving his hefty bill behind for me to pay, he rushed out into the embrace of the burning sun, totally at peace with his sanctimonious pontification... while I sat there wondering how on earth, I was going to save myself from the avalanche of charlatans that have now made it their divinely appointed duty of attacking all my platforms of correspondence with unrequested advice on how to spend the money I have not received or take advantage of the prize I have not won.
