An interesting incident, I interviewed an’ IIT’ guy from India - TopicsExpress

An interesting incident, I interviewed an’ IIT’ guy from India with 6 years of experience and fresh of the boat to US. In the end of the interview he asked me ‘how stable was the job’. Diplomatically I said ‘Definitely not as stable as your parents or my parent’s job and also depends on everyone’s performance”. He had joined the company day before yesterday and my boss called me yesterday and said, “Talk to him he is asking everyone on the stability of the job inside the office”. He bumped into me in the cafeteria, he asked the same question to me “My parents are worried as this is my new job in US, is the company stable?” I said “As it is a startup, it depends on the products success and you will know it by next year”, but he still insisted to tell me on number of years, I had to break this to the kid in a hard way, “You are in the Mecca of IT, and there is nothing called stability in this place. All ideas are sprung up from here whatever you can name it “Google” or “Apple” or “Yahoo” or “Oracle” but in the end it all depends upon its success. More over this place is filled with people of technical skills more than you can think of. But if you need stability, then more than your education background or your technical skills you need communication, attitude or luck. But there is another simple solution that is to move back to places in mid west and choose a less hot job. But in here you just need to hang on to your balls and run, and by the way welcome to Silicon Valley my friend”. He still had a sad face, and me being the devil I jokingly said, unlike many white guys from US, who are on their own even before their college, you have parents who worries about you and your job, and you are lucky in one way, if anything goes wrong you can still go back and there will be someone to feed you” he took the joke (Jab) good and had a smile on his face. Long story short there are plus and minus in every field, but by accepting the reality in that field you are more happy and successful. Everybody wants everything in life but remember “You cannot eat your cake and have it too at the same time”.
