Governor Hits At Cord Over Railas Homecoming Rally By Rosemary Maresi Wednesday 04 June 2014 Nakuru Deputy Governor Joseph Ruttoh has criticised the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) officials, accusing them of preaching negative ethnicity. In what would be seen as criticism for the much hyped Saturday homecoming rally for Cord leader Raila Odinga, Ruttoh said it is unfortunate that the opposition is determined to divide Kenyans along tribal lines. Speaking at Nakuru’s Afraha stadium during Madaraka Day celebrations, the deputy governor asked the Cord luminaries to desist from preaching hatred. “The country is not yet healed from the effects of 2007/08 post-poll chaos that were ignited by tribalism. And now, it is unfortunate that some leaders are working hard to divide Kenyans,” said Ruttoh. He added that Kenyans have learnt from the effects of tribalism that hit the country in 2008 and will not be divided on tribal basis. Ruttoh also accused the opposition of plotting to bring down the Jubilee government by insisting to have national dialogue. He asked the opposition to respect the government and let it work without unnecessary interference. On Saturday, Cord leaders gave the government two months to organise for a national dialogue. The opposition leadership, however, was not clear on the timeline as they insisted on ‘sabasaba’ which is about a month away. Raila Odinga had taken a three-month sabbatical in the US state of Massachusetts. Source: Hivisasa
