An interesting piece from Simon King re the badger cull in which he presents some very hard hitting arguments for why the current trial will not work, and offers his own solutions for a trial. I was very interested in his thoughts on the Irish attempts at culling badgers as this was something I raised with the NFU a couple of months ago - I am still awaiting a response! Also, I have long shared the opinion that a combination of intensive farming methods (leading to animal stress), modern feed (based largely upon nutrient-poor maize), and the excessive movement of cattle have all a major part to play. Sadly, the NFU and the government seem exceptionally reluctant to look at any of this.
