An interesting read indeed. I saw in another recent article (not this link), that music-creation has become so easy and cheap now, the whole streaming free music thing works out for everyone. Musician: just buy some $200 product from Apple and record a song that could potentially sell billions of copies. Simple! But that cute little dollar amount stated in that article did not account for the cost of the instruments, the musicians, the time it takes to learn and perform the song, the writing, the mics, the stands, the headphones, the cables, the mixing, the mastering, the artwork, the promotion, etc. It all starts to add up, and while it may be less expensive to record a song now than in the past, the dwindling compensation for musicians, writers and producers seems to be vanishing.
