An issue I always struggle with. . . I volunteered to join the Army in 1969. . . I put down 1st choice assignment was VietNam. . I went to school and 2 weeks before graduation my whole class got reassigned to Europe instead. Due to the 10 years I was on active duty - I am classified as a Viet Nam era vet. I am a life member of the Vietnam Vets and American Legion. . . I try hard to support the vets of our era and beyond . . . but I have a hard time when someone asks I see you are classified as a Vietnam Era Vet. . . I respond I am an Era Vet, I did not serve in country. Yes I volunteered to join, but I did not serve in country. . wish there was a different way to be classified for my years of service. Wonder if others have the same challenges. Those who served in country are due a lot of respect.
