An ode to Scotland Our marriage – give it another go It saddens me deeply to know that you aren’t happy in our relationship. Know that I never meant to hurt you and that ultimately I will always love you and when you’re gone I will miss you. But this letter to you is designed to say please give us a second go and a second chance. Our marriage has had its good points and bad points; there have been ups and downs but in the end what is so wonderful to me about the marriage is to know that I have your support, trust and commitment to making me a better Country. If you go, I know you’ll be amazing. You have fantastic qualities that will mean that you will succeed in the world. You have brilliant minds, talent, and ingenuity. But I remember when we were both alone and single; the fights that we used to have. I hated being alone and the in fighting that we had amongst all of us. When we got together it was the happiest moment. One plus one definitely did not mean to 2, it actually made 10. These 300 years have been an amazing transformative centuries together. I know that I must change and that we both must change and adapt. As with all life change happens constantly. But does that mean to paraphrase that we throw out the baby with bathwater? I really hope not. So all I’m asking is to please give us a second chance, tell me what you feel and what you need to alter to make our marriage work. But also understand if I change for you then I will request some changes too. A marriage is a partnership of two equals in the end. So in summation, what I want you to know is that for evermore you will have a place in my heart. If you are so determined that you want to break away and leave and make new life for you; I only wish the very best for you. It’s going to be tough and difficult divorce as we both have to look after our own interests. I don’t want to go down that route because what I thought was that what we have as a marriage was very very special and I don’t want to loose you – you are my best friend, my confident my life.
