An official of the National Port Authority or NPA says thirteen thousand logs are being shipped out of Liberia by Atlantic Resources, after a prolonged moratorium on logging activities here. At the Port of Greenville in Sinoe County, President Sirleaf was informed of the shipment during an interaction with the director of ports at the NPA, whose name could not be verified immediately. President Sirleaf visited the port while concluding a day’s assessment of projects in Sinoe County during which she visited the people of Juarzon District, making several stops and distributing lappers and other items among the people in towns where students, youth, women and children assembled to greet her. At the time of informing the President of the shipment on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the Greenville Port, the NPA authority said the first log vessel had just left the port three days prior to her arrival there, and another vessel had docked at the port, waiting to be uploaded. The NPA official said besides the Kuwaitee Loan here, they were creating a marine infrastructure, while under the loan agreement, some marine equipment including tug boats, pallet boats, allotment lots and other logistics will be provided to keep the port functional. He said the shipment of logs was a good start for the economy, while confirming to the President that understanding has been reached for Golden Veroleum or GV to use the Greenville Port. The GVL is expected to establish a blunkering station at the port, where it will truck the CPO and the company is just awaiting ratification the kickoff operation. According to the NPA, the time it takes to upload cargo vessel has improved, indicating that the problem they had sometimes was with the shore-gang labor, who are responsible to organize the cargo on board the vessel. thenewdawnliberia/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=11219:liberia-resumes-logs-shipment&catid=25:politics&Itemid=59
