An old amrican indian story - please comment if you like it. An old Cherokee said to his grandson, who came to him with anger at a friend who had done him an injustice, "Let me tell you a story. I too, at times, have felt a great hate for some. But hate wears you down - it is like taking poison wishing your enemy would die" He continued, "It is as if there are two wolves inside me. One is good and does no harm. He lives in harmony with all around him, and does not take offense when no offense was intended. He will only fight when it is right to do so, and in the right way. But the other wolf is full of anger. The smallest thing will make him angry. He fights everyone, all the time, for no reason. He cannot think because his anger and hate are so great. It is helpless anger, for his anger changes nothing. It is hard to live with these two wolves inside me, for both try to dominate me. The same fight is going on inside you and inside every other person, too." The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked, "Which wolf wins?" The old Cherokee smiled and replied, "The one you feed, my son." The Evil Wolf’s appetite is never satisfied. To feel equal in the world, his feelings of inadequacy and resentment demand that others be subjugated. The Good Wolf is never so hungry. Those who love openly and generously, treat others with kindness, live by clear and steadfast principles don’t need to feel better than others to feel equal. Their sense of well-being and positive self-esteem comes from being true to themselves, not from feeling superior. Which wolf do you feed? What would you change about yourself and others? Why?
