An older (60s, perhaps) couple sitting at the bar, today, asked the whether the staff was all in school. Cierra, youre not in school, right? You graduated? Youre done? No, Im not in school. No, I didnt graduate. Yes, Im done. *woman purses her lips condescendingly* But most of you ARE in school, right? This seems like a nice place to hang out. // I work 50 hours a week, and I (as well as many other customer service workers) work HARD. We cater to your every whim, smile and nod when you degrade us, often dont get sick days or breaks, and at the end of the day, what we can feel of our bodies is, well, better unfelt. On our busiest day, at our busiest time, your coffee & water never went down more than a centimeter without being refilled, and though I walked you through the menu, our specials, sources, etc, answered your every question, you probably didnt tip more than 10%. I love my job, and am thankful that I get to do, but this is not hanging out for any of us. Dont pity me for not having a degree to put on my restaurant applications. Im a realist, and if you think that makes my worth less, youre probably the one who needs to get with the times.
