An open letter to Olive Garden, though it will probably get lost - TopicsExpress

An open letter to Olive Garden, though it will probably get lost in cyber space. I want to preface by saying that Im not angry; Im concerned. I took my son to Olive Garden for lunch today...specifically because you offer a gluten-free menu. Long story short, my son ended up with a meal that contained gluten, simply because a lack of training and information. My waitress assured me no less than 3 times that his meal did NOT contain gluten...and then, after his order had already been placed, she laughed nervously and admitted to me that she does not even know what gluten is. I very briefly explained to her that if the meal contains wheat, my son cannot have it. Halfway through his meal, my son began to itch. I paid for my meal, walked to the front and asked for either a manager or someone who works in the kitchen. I ended up with the kitchen manager. He confirmed my suspicion - my sons meal had indeed contained gluten. We left and got to a pharmacy in time, but now my son is spending his 9th birthday nodding off because of the dose of allergy medication he had to receive. Heres where you come in, Olive Garden. TRAIN YOUR PEOPLE, PLEASE! My waitress shouldve known that the sauce she SUGGESTED to us contained gluten. Also, it shouldve sent up a figurative red flag in the kitchen when someone ordered the gluten-free pasta with a non gluten-free sauce. For the sake of all those with allergies and intolerances, BEFORE you make someone really seriously sick, take care of this. My son was lucky. The next child may not be. If you want to offer these special menus (which we do appreciate!), please make sure you offer them safely. Thank you.
