An open letter to the IDA HO, comments are welcomes by learned colleagues Dear Sir, This is in reference to so many advertisements regarding the toothpaste being advertised showing the dental surgeon with specific names (sensodyne) and other actors depicting as dental surgeons. As you are well aware that dentist code of ethics act 1976 section 6 (o) specifically bars any dental surgeon in doing so Please tell me as a active member of IDA what action is being taken by IDA against such advertisements? Also in advertisements where there are no real dental surgeons but actors acting dental surgeons come under the same preview as the impersonation is done to confuse the general public in believing that they are real dental surgeons. There are no devices in world which can show bacteria directly over tooth as depicted in so many advertisements. It is duty of our IDA to upkeep interest of professionals, These advertisements not only depict the dental surgeons in low light but also degrade our values in society. Sensitivity in most young patients occurs due to carious lesion, only in older ages the sensitivity occurs due to attrition, abrasion. As it is well known that carious lesion needs a professional intervention and not a sensitivity toothpaste. People are being misguided by most of the brands. Now the patients report with more exposed pulp due to extensive use of sensitivity toothpaste and delaying of treatment by professionals it becomes our moral duty to stop the wrong information to be spread in public which is harming our field in precedent way I strongly urge IDA to take positive step to curb such illegal activities which are detrimental to our fraternity image and reputation
