An unemployed man, Lekan Emmanuel, 20, alleged to have stolen a generator and a laptop worth N115,000 on Tuesday appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. Emmanuel, of no fixed address, is facing a two count of conspiracy and theft. The prosecutor, ASP Godwin Eze, told the court that the accused committed the offence on February 27 at about 4 a.m. at No. 1, Taiwo Adefuye St. in Ojo, Lagos. Eze alleged that Emmanuel went to the above address and stole a generator valued at N15,000 and a laptop worth N100,000 belonging to Adefuye. “He was arrested by the police while trying to bolt away with the items,” the prosecutor said, adding that the offences contravened sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that anyone found guilty of theft is liable to three years imprisonment. The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charges. The magistrate, Mr Taslimi Shomade, granted the accused bail in the sum of N115,000 with two sureties in like sum. He adjourned the case till April 28 for mention.
