An unknown fact about Kumar Sangakara: His love and fondness for Pakistan is quite well known. But why he has such a high regard for Pakistan? His wife Yehali Sangakkara originally belongs to a town named Sampur near the Naval base of Trincomalee. It was a largely Sinhalee area captured by LTTE during the height of violence. Sri Lankan Army launched a major offensive in 2006 to cleanse Sampur from Tamil rebels. A vicious battle ensued, in which PAF fighter jets pounded the Tamil positions and played a pivotal part in the liberation of Sampur in September 2006. The family and near dear ones of Yehali, along with the rest of the people of Sampur were released from the terror of LTTE courtesy Pakistan. Yehali Sangakkara sent a special message of gratitude and appreciation to President General Pervez Musharaf after that great battle through the Pakistani ambassador in Colombo.
