An urgent (and time sensitive) request from our delegate, Tami Cline: Some of you are aware of and some of you have been involved in the process of petitioning for a “mega issue” discussion around business and management at the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics House of Delegates meeting. Our issue has been accepted and will be the topic for this fall’s discussion during FNCE. I’m reaching out to you as experts in the field to provide articles, books, and any other references for the Academy staff who will be authoring the background paper. It would be wonderful to include any works that you have completed on these topics. The two major questions to be discussed are: 1. Why is business and management so important to your area of practice? 2. How will knowledge and skills in business and management change or be necessary in the next 5-10 years? (what changes in health care do you envision in your area of practice to make this knowledge necessary-for example, hospitals are no longer the norm, rather medical homes and satellite offices are). This is very short notice, but the Academy has requested our suggested references by next Friday, May 23rd. They have to have a draft of the backgrounder to the House Leadership Team by June 9th. Those of us that have been working on this feel this is such an important topic to be discussed among dietitians representing all states and practice areas.
