This is coming at a time when the party’s governorship aspirants faced the screening committee in Abuja. The party has also written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw recognition of Ejike Oguebego, as the state chairman in Anambra PDP’s earning came from aspirants who, each, picked a bill of N1million to obtain the nomination form and an extra N10millin at the return of the form. In all, 17 aspirants returned their form, while seven did not. Out of the 17, 15 are males, whose payment gave PDP N165 million. The two female aspirants paid N6 million each, to generate N12 million, while the seven, who obtained forms at N1 million each but did not return them, generated N7 million. The payments were made before Monday, when return of forms ended. Yesterday, the PDP screening committee headed by Alhaji Aminu Wali started to scrutinise the claims made by the aspirants, to determine their fitness for the race. The aspirants that picked the nomination form are Andy Uba; Nicolas Ukachukwu; Obinna Uzoh and Tony Nwoye. The others are Sylvester Okonkwo, Charles Odunukwe, Akachukwu Nwankpo; Emma Anosike; Jerry Ugokwe; Josephine Anenih and Ugochukwu Okeke. Also, former Information Minister, Ikeobasi Mokelu, Linda Chuba Ikpeazu; Alexander Obiogbolu, Walter Okeke, Eucharia Azodo, Donatus Okonkwo, Chuwuka Onyema, Onyenisi Obianuju, Kramer Ifunayachukwu, Adimachukwu Calista and Chinyere Udemba picked forms too. At the screening yesterday, it was gathered that the PDP handed a screening exercise brief form to the aspirants and asked them to fill it and bring today. First to pick the form, yesterdat was Ubah. Thereafter, Anosike, Uzoh, Okoye, Nwankpo, Ugokwe and others appeared before the committee and picked their forms. The screening continues today. As the screening was going on, some of the aspirants had stated that they would accept a consensus candidate, provided such agreement would be democratically entered into. Specifically, two of the aspirants, Nwankpo and Odunukwe, said they would abide by the party’s position should PDP adopt a consensus candidate. They spoke yesterday after the screening. Meanwhile, the controversy over the authentic leader of Anambra PDP continues. While the INEC said it recognises Ejike Ogubego, the national leadership of the PDP recognises Ken Emeakayi as the state chairman. Daily Sun gathered that some aspirants are against Oguebego over the allegation that he favours a particular aspirant. There are fears that if he eventually conducts the governorship primaries and his favouraite emerges, as the candidate, some of the other aspirants may defect to other parties to actualise their ambition. -Sun News
