Anambra poll: My political opponents jittery, says Ngige Senator Chris Nwabueze Ngige said yesterday that his political opponents were now spreading false rumours against him over his declaration to contest the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State because they were jittery. Ngige, who spoke during a town hall meeting and thank you visit to Awka North and South constituency, insisted that those spreading such false rumours did not do so six months or three months ago, adding that because they feared that he wielded massive support from Anambra people, they now suddenly try to come up with one frivolous accusation or the other. He said that the town hall meeting and thank you visit had afforded him the ample opportunity to present his constituency reports, encompassing his scorecard in the Senate. Ngige, who is the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power, highlighted his achievements in two years as a senator, saying he co-sponsored the Anti- Gay Bill, Health Bill and National Health Insurance Commission Bill. APGA screens guber aspirants: Two governorship aspirants seeking to contest on the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, during the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State, Dr. Chike Obidigbo, and Professor Charles Soludo, yesterday, agreed to embrace any arrangement that could produce a consensus candidate for the party. The aspirants, who spoke after facing the screening panel set up by the party at its national secretariat in Abuja, declared that their aspirations to govern the state was not a do-or-die affairs and were, therefore, ready to support any move by the stakeholders to promote cohesiveness within the party. Obidigbo noted that “the fact that we are many contesting for the ticket of the party means that we are all qualified to do that job but at the end of the day, only one person will emerge the flag bearer for the party”. “That is the whole essence of the screening and the party primaries but as human beings and as people who have the interest of our state at heart, chances are that we might have to sit to together and iron out some differences and maybe help those who are trying to help us.” On his plans for the state, Obidigbo said: “I have always said it that Anambra state at this point in time needs a good luck at is economy. “We want to strengthen the economy of Anambra State; we want to reduce the incidents of criminal activities. We want to grow our economy. We want to provide serious sustainable jobs to our young unemployed graduates and even artisans. “ We want to take all steps that will ensure that we put more bread on the tables’ average people in Anambra State. And I believe that coming from my own background, I am in the best position to achieve that. On his economic blue print, he said, I believe we have pay also of attention to the productive sector of the economy. “That is to say, we will seriously work on the manufacturing sector, we will seriously work on the agricultural sector, tourism and above to seriously work to ensure that we derive maximum benefit from the wealth that God has given us which is also site and situated right there in the state.” In his remarks, Professor Charles Soludo, who was also the former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, explained that he joined APGA not necessarily because of the governorship contest but to build the party. He said: “I am saying my priority in joining All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, is to help to build APGA as a formidable political party. Running for governor is not why I joined APGA. Did that surprise you? “I have joined APGA primarily to join forces with the other compatriots, other Nigerians to build APGA as a formidable political party. An APGA that will some day mainstream what APGA stands for, what APGA has to offer Nigeria.”
