Anarchy is chaos No. Anyone in the least familiar with politics ought to be able to tell you that the State, rather than Anarchy, is the epitome of chaos. This observation is behind Anselme Bellegarrigues famous quote: Anarchy is order; government is civil war and similar sentiments expressed by Proudhon and Bakunin. It is from this that the famous Circle-A symbol derives. The circle is a letter O: Anarchy is Order. That is, it is through Liberty that the sustainable, vibrant and healthy spontaneous ordering of human society occurs as people sort out and reinforce the relationships among themselves that work for them and freely abandon the ones that dont -- something forbidden to one degree or another at gunpoint under any sort of state.
