Ancient Roman statesman Cicero was famous for saying O Tempora, O Mores!(Oh, The Times, Oh, The Morals!) One of those stories which would make a liberal mad. I watched a promo for a show called Preachers Daughters. Apparently, it is about young ladys who serve as missionaries, but also get an opportunity for whoring and drinking. Just when you thought reality TV Reality Shows had reached the bottom of the barrel. Funny thing, though, it got me thinking about one those crime shows, like Forensic Files. Dick Wolf, lawyer and creator of Law and Order, once said it amazed him how highly thought of doctors are in America. He personally found them greedy and arrogant. He used that thought as a basis for the Pilot of Law and Order, where a druken doctor kills a young girl who came into the hospital for a migraine headache. Mysteriously she dies. Then everybody in the hospital rallies to protects the drunken doctor. Only her father, a former medic in Vietnam, knew something was wrong. And he wouldnt rest until what happened to his little girl. The story was about a young, poor newlywed whose daughter was stillborn. Odd thing occurred, on the exact day that her daughter would have turned 18, she received an envelope with a picture of a very pretty young girl, dressed in very elegant, expensive clothes for Easter. There was no note. The woman was troubled and perplexed by the photo. She couldnt let it go, finally, she had a troubling realization. She had her daughter, disintered and had a DNA test done. Her daughter wasnt hers. No one will know exactly what happened, but apparently the Hospital Staff decided that a wealthy family deserved a little girl and the poor family didnt. But someone had a a conscience and had to, in their way, let the mother know. I always remember Agatha Christies Murder on the Orient Express, when Belgian detective Hercule Poirot solves the crime and says that everyone was guilty. Sounds right to me.
