And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. Therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed. For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him, said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.” And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant well. (Luke 7:6-10 ESV) Faith. It can move mountains if we have as much as a grain of mustard seed. According to Hebrews 11:1 its the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Webster defines it as a strong belief or trust in someone or something, a belief in the existence of God, or strong religious feelings or system of religious beliefs. The account of the centurion guard has always intrigued me. The centurion guard, a gentile, sought out help from the Jewish leaders. He felt unworthy to seek Christ on his own and hoped help would come if leaders of the Jewish community sent for Jesus. Cant you imagine the thrill in his heart as he received word the Rabbi was coming to heal his faithful servant? Then as he realized his house was not in order to receive such an honored guest Im sure his heart sank. The centurion ran to meet our Perfect Lamb with the faith of a mustard seed. Because of his faith the Word of Christ healed the servant. What a celebration there had to be at the centurions house that night! We can learn a lot from the example of his faith, but please dont miss the sad part of this story. The centurion could have had the Savior of the world come to his house! We have to let Jesus see us just as we are for Him to cleanse us and make all that we can be. Theres nothing we can do to get our house in order or get ourselves in shape to feel worthy to meet the Risen Lord! The centurion trusted that our Lord would provide what he stood in need of that day. What do you stand in need of? Lets move mountains together! Dear Lord, I love You so much! Thank You for showing us how we should love others and especially how we can fully rely on You for our everything. Lord, this doesnt mean that we can throw up our hands and expect You to do everything! We must have an active role in our life, we must be active in Your service, but we must rely on You to lead, shelter, protect, comfort, and heal us from the wounds we receive fighting our good fight. Thank You for giving doctors and nurses the knowledge and ability to take care of us. You are the giver of every good and perfect gift and so many of these angels in white robes have taken care of us over the years! Bless them for allowing You to use them for Your glory! May we humble ourselves to Your service daily. Use us for the furtherance of Your kingdom and for Your glory. We give You all honor and all praise and all glory. You are so very worthy!!!!
