And Toot Toot too This is my oldest daughter Kathleen. Kathleen graduated from ASU with honors last December. Kathleen had been a stay at home mother fully engaged in making a home for her husband and four children, twin girls and two boys. Her focus was always centered on her family. She loves order and peace and simplicity. She loves history and nature. She loves learning and she loves teaching. While her children were in school she volunteered and coached a Fifth grade team, including her own two girls in an extra-curricular program, Odyssey of the Mind, leading them to a National competition, representing Arizona. She volunteered at her children’s schools teaching Art Masters. She volunteered at their school reprising an Arizona History presentation on the Prehistoric Indians of the Southwest that her Dad had presented to classes for the older grandchildren. When her children were grown she returned to work in the school Counselling Department. She proudly watched as some of her children graduated with honors and with distinction and others became loving and accomplished homemakers of themselves. She too wanted to obtain a degree. She wanted to be a teacher, something she loved. And so she returned to school, a full time wife and mother, a part-time worker, mother of four and grandmother of seven, steadily, patiently, doggedly, in pursuit of a goal. She studied late into the night. She proudly showed her me her good grades and Professor’s positive comments. And she quietly received her degree. She is now teaching Jr. High Social Studies full time. She is a bona fide and certified teacher. I always knew it. She was born to teach, (“ . . . and a little child shall lead them.“ Isaiah 11:6). From the very start she began teaching me to become her mother.
