“And finally, to meet the challenge that No Kill entails, - TopicsExpress

“And finally, to meet the challenge that No Kill entails, shelter leadership needs to get the community excited, to energize people for the task at hand. By working with people, implementing lifesaving programs, and treating each life as precious, a shelter can transform a community.” nokilladvocacycenter.org/shelter-reform/no-kill-equation/ It seems some members of the BOCC, administration and shelter management, and even some in the “rescue” movement in Manatee County have tried to cast those seeking NO KILL status for Animals Services as radical and unrealistic. This is so far from reality, the NO KILL “advocates” are well educated people from all walks of life whom seek accountability for the Resolution and Plan that was set forth in 2011 by the Manatee County BOCC. https://mymanatee.org/home/government/departments/public-safety/animal-services/no-kill.html The reality is the PLAN was never implemented and now 3 years later suddenly it has become a priority right before the election? The answer is clear it is all about “damage control” and no amount of damage control can make up for the years of killing adoptable pets with minor treatable conditions. For the past three years community members’ have been writing and speaking out to no avail. Manatee Animal Services continued to transfer animals to Napier’s “Sanctuary” until November 2013 despite being aware of the conditions and neglect the animals were suffering. The Investigative Report indicates all the communication that NOT only Animal Services administration and management was aware of, but that Carol Whitmore was involved in. She was actually “SICK’ of hearing about it. Oddly, through Public Record Requests we obtained an email of her communicating with the Napier’s. For what possible reason would an elected official be communicating with them after the February 2014 raid and arrests? archive.wtsp/assetpool/documents/140804070703_Napier,%20Animal%20Services%20report.pdf All one has to do is attend a BOCC meeting or email the BOCC and Shelter administration to know the lack of response to community concerns. The norm for “responses” is that of arrogance, ignorance and apathy in Manatee County Government. A vote for Terri Wonder is a vote for people, animals and the environment. Carol Whitmore the “PROVEN LEADERSHIP’ as she has “tagged” herself is for the status quo in Manatee County- a career politician out of touch with the realities. So IF things are truly going to change in Manatee County we need a political change a vote for Terri Wonder on November 4th is a VOTE for that much needed change.
