And now for a sappy little message.... Many believe that Pride celebrations are just an excuse for people to get drunk and scream for attention from anyone that will notice. Maybe they are, but whats really wrong with that? We cant forget the importance of visibility and appreciate the diversity within our community. Without those loud brave voices, our lives would continue to be marginalized by the masses. Last weekend, a friend asked if I ever thought wed see marriage become legal in our lifetimes, and I said, HELL NO! And yet, here we are,19 STATES and COUNTING!!!! Very impressive considering we alone are 5-10% of the population. But we are no longer alone in the struggle for acceptance. We never really were. So whether youre partaking in parties and spirits or staying home with your new spouse and the kids (furry, actual, or both?) remember to celebrate life, the power of love, the blessing of freedom, and the trailblazers and allies that brought about such sweeping change across this country and continue that fight for acceptance around the world. To close, I heard this song on the radio over the weekend and was instantly hooked by the theme and her beautiful voice, of course. I dont know how anyone can hear this and still remain cynical about the potential for love to conquer all. Happy Pride Everyone!
