And speaking of Victorian hairstyles...besides the anchoring combs which most used with all styles, the well-dressed ladies adorned their tresses with flowers and pearls and jeweled ribbons, and anything else creative they could find. They even used pads to curl their tresses around and false human hair to add volume to those who werent blessed with thick hair. Hair curlers & crimpers to attain just the full and lush look they wanted. And braids, braids, braids were the rage. But where daytime tresses were more refined, evening meant gentle curls at the sides to accent pretty faces or down the back to reflect a lovely neckline. And women even slicked back their hair with oils to achieve a smooth and stylish do. So unlike we ladies today who blow dry our tresses & then head out the door. Not so for our foremothers...hair was a big thing to them and truly made a statement of their status in life. :-)
