Gaining 50 lbs to prove a point. What do you all think about - TopicsExpress

Gaining 50 lbs to prove a point. What do you all think about this story in the news right now? In a nutshell... this woman gained 50 lbs to prove that overweight people are only heavy because of themselves. This is excluding the very small majority of people that are overweight because of certain diseases. Once she put on the 50 lbs, she exclaimed that there is no way to be completely happy if you are over weight. She said it hurts your knees, it hurts your heart and just over all hurts your body. This is a tough woman with a military background who didnt cry at her wedding or the birth of her children but she said she cried during her 50 lb gain because she just felt so disgusting and it was really HARD to be overweight. “People have always said to me, all of my life, Youre lucky to be skinny, and what I wanted to prove was that there are no excuses for being overweight. - Katie Hopkins. What do you guys think? Is she taking this too far or is this just what our society needs to hear? Shes now on her 2nd part of her journey which is losing the 50 lbs, and on the interview i watched this morning, in just a few short months she only has 14 lbs to lose and shes been doing this aside from her regular business hours (trying to simulate the life of an average working woman.) She doesnt have a personal trainer, gym membership or a personal chef. My opinion: Im really torn about this. Coming from someone who struggled with the OPPOSITE problem for a portion of my life, I was underweight from STARVING and OVER exercising. The only thing keeping me from getting healthy was myself. I exclaimed that I was happy with my body when deep down, I was really depressed not only from my lack of nutrients and sleep but because people would point, snicker and stare. I knew I wasnt doing my body any good. I knew it was going to be HARD WORK to overcome my struggles mentally, and get healthy again. I do think Katie Hopkins is on the edge of fat shaming but at the same time, I support her point that being overweight IS hard... but it also takes HARD WORK to lose it and thats why most people just dont do it. But I dont know, maybe she couldve conducted her experiment as being more of an inspiration instead of giving so much tough love?
