And king Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglathpileser king of Assyria, and saw an altar that was at Damascus: and king Ahaz sent to Urijah the priest the fashion of the altar, and the pattern of it, according to all the workmanship thereof. And Urijah the priest built an altar according to all that king Ahaz had sent from Damascus: so Urijah the priest made it against king Ahaz came from Damascus. And when the king was come from Damascus, the king saw the altar: and the king approached to the altar, and offered thereon............2 kings 16:9-12......... Lesson: Judah sought for the assistance of the Assyrians to fight against Syria.........Assyrian king accepted the treasures sent to him from Judah so he consented to the request to go against Syria........ The capital Damascus was conquered and captured and Rezin the Syrian king was slain.........Ahaz visited the Assyrian king at Damascus where he had conquered the Syrian........Ahaz saw an altar at Damascus and sent for Urijah the priest the build an altar of the same fashion and pattern in Judah......... What are the positive and negative lessons we can deduce from this........The altar at Damascus what kind of altar was it.......Is it an altar on which idols were sacrificed unto gods or was it an altar unto the Almighty God....... Heb 13:9-12........Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein. We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp. Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate......... The reflections: if it was an altar on which idols are sacrificed why copy that pattern to worship the Almighty God........We must not copy the world and bringing their concepts and ideology into Gods place of worship........No matter how winsome the idea appeals to our mind........the wisdom of the world is not from above but from the enemy....... Christ not for any single moment did compromise the vision of the Father with what He saw on earth........Moses as well stood and built according to the divine pattern that was shown unto him on the mount........ The question to you and I is are we building according to the divine pattern of God in our relationship, worship and lifestyle or are we copying from the pattern of the world........John the beloved revealed love not the world neither the things of the world........ 1 Jn 2:15-17............Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever....... We could appreciate and desire the good things in this world but does it agree with Gods divine pattern......... Whatever we accept which is not line with Gods divine will and purpose has eternal consequences and punishment....... Lets watch what we copy.......People could say we are old fashioned it is good to be called names than to lose eternity....... What shall it profit you and I to gain the fashion and concepts of the world and lose heaven......... Mk 8:36........For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?.... Prayer: O Lord help us to follow and build our lives according to your divine pattern and not of the world.......in Jesus name........Amen.
