And then there is this moment when your sitting in a Las Vegas airport next to a drinking fountain charging your phone at the only plug you found, where you realize that your empty, your energy is gone and the blur of three days full of smiles and tears bleachers and classrooms barbecues and and assemblies and hundreds of faces writing down their stories, when you receive a text from home and a friend has moved or is in need and you are paralyzed by the Texas night and the history of your lonesome breathe, you remember the girl in the library, at the all girls school, you remember the tears spilling from the rims of her eyelids when, all 15 years of her life slams into you and that moment, when she is brave enough to talk to the poet dude and say thank you, last year when you came, I cant explain, you dont know how much what you said helped me change and keep going and as tired as you are you cant help but notice there are no words here to offer just a quiet hug, you know the heart behind the words has done the work and as exhausted as you are now ready to board the next flight you find an energy to weep and speak out loud about all this love and all this sacrifice and predict what portland will feel like next to your memory of Texas as You drag onward Into tomorrow where new faces and voices await.
