And those in power now, who have placed so much stock in the legendary resilience and uncomplaining nature of the Filipino, when will their day of reckoning come? I can only hope that it is already a question of when and no longer if, because the fecklessness and lack of empathy of our rulers should, if there is any justice in the world, be reciprocated with not just anger but also with swift action. The people must realize by now that their so-called leaders do not care if they live or die, as long as they reap the fruits of their limitless greed and boundless ambition. After all, if they die, they can’t complain anymore; and if they live, they’ve long been told that hey, at least they didn’t die, right?
