And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Col 3:23. We should take pleasure in working hard because we please Him when we have a strong work ethic. In his sermon "The Gift of Work" Roger Thomas states "Work is a gift of God because through working we fulfill our created purpose." Before the fall of man, God made work enjoyable. He did not create work as a punishment for us. Only after Adam and Eve had sinned is when God then told them that they must labor for their survival. Work was then seen as a result of the fall. Work is a gift from God because whatever we do, we do it with the resources that God provides. If we work in a job that we do not like, we still receive a paycheck for our work. That paycheck is a blessing that allows us to provide for ourselves and our families. When we work in a job that we love, it makes us even more appreciative to God because we view our job as an amazing blessing from Him. God gives us hard work to build our character and inner strength. When we put our time and energy into our work, it helps to build our patience, determination and creativity. We honor God when we work and try our hardest because we have worked with integrity that pleases Him. We must remember to give thanks to God for our work because our jobs are gifts from Him.
