And yet another piece of the wheat/gluten puzzle fell into place - TopicsExpress

And yet another piece of the wheat/gluten puzzle fell into place today. Have been a bit worried about swollen glands in my neck.. Not excessively worried as I have suffered random swollen glands on and off since my early youth. A little research and yep, gluten again. Its been a bad few weeks and not a day has passed where the rotten stuff hasnt found its way into my food despite all efforts to avoid it. Sometimes you weaken and eat what ever is available because the option is going hungry. The daily nausea, diarhhea/constipation cycle, joint pain, septic arthritis, muscle spasms, headaches, mood swings, depression, blurred vision, brain fog, wheezing and lung infections are just a few ticks on the list. Now I can also eliminate the cause of constantly swollen glands... If anyone has come to this group seeking insight into the condition because it is suffered by a friend or family member, kudos to you for trying to understand. Contrary to what many think it is not just bread that contains wheat and gluten.. The obvious ones are bread, pastry, pasta and associated products like pies, biscuits, crackers and breakfast cereals. The ones most people arent aware of is sauces, marinades, condiments, mayonnaise, stocks, ice cream, beer, wheat or rye based spirits, wheat fed meat, spiced salts, vitamin tablets, processed beverages, basically anything that is commercially produced or manufactured as gluten is used as a thickener and preservative. Even Corn flour, rice bubbles and Corn flakes contain wheat/gluten. Its hard to avoid and the random glutening is a daily risk if the product hasnt been researched thoroughly. I was recently layed low with a random glutening due to the harvest in the local wheat belt the surrounds Perth when it coincided with a prolonged bout of Easterly, N/Easterly winds.... When I say I cant eat wheat/gluten its not a fashion statement, its not a health kick and it certainly isnt to lose weight (I cant afford to lose anymore) its a step I need to take to stay alive and functioning. Invisible illnesses abound, physical and psycholigical, Food allergies, Crohns, Celiacs, IBS, Depression, Diabetes, Arthritis, CVS, the list is long. Instead of judging what you cant see spare a thought for the person who gets out of bed everyday and carries on even though they would much rather crawl into a hole and hide than face another day in pain.
