Ive always loved this song because my mom adored John Denver. Then, when I was in England and I lost my friend Lucy in Denver (if youve read Mathilda, you know a bit about my Lucy), I was unable to attend her memorial service. Her husband kindly sent me a program and I was not surprised to see that Lucy had chosen this as one of the songs to be played while people shared their grief at her loss and their joy that she touched their life. Lucy was all about this song. She lived this song. The only comfort to be had, knowing that when she left this earth all too soon. The words and music in this song are so powerful, even though Ive heard it hundreds of times, it has never lost its power. So I gave it to WILD AND FREE, sheer perfection to explain the dedication of a man to a mighty concept of good and right. I am the eagle, I live in high country in rocky cathedrals that reach to the sky. I am the hawk and theres blood on my feathers. but time is still turning, they soon will be dry. And all those who see me and all who believe in me share in the freedom I feel when I fly. Come dance with the west wind and touch all the mountaintops. Sail oer the canyons and up to the stars. And reach for the heavens and hope for the future, and all that we CAN BE, not what we are. This song has two simple verses of poetry.
