Im starting this status by saying I wish I had known all this when I was younger. It was only three hours, but holy crap, going to Election Officer training was amazing. I can sympathize with people who have a low tolerance about certain voters. You cant complain about not having the proper documents to vote when youve moved ten times over the past four years, and not bothered to vote any other time other than Presidential elections. Yes, there is such a thing as practicing to vote, so if Virginias voter ID laws suddenly catch you off guard, you are several years too late when you get turned away from voting for Paul Ryan, Hilary Clinton, or whoever the heck everyone predicts will reach the top of the ballot. And the stats on voter participation during off years was expected, but very sad. I know being President is nothing to sneeze at, but theres so much stuff in between that people miss, even at the request of two hours a year. The worst part was being the second-youngest person there, out of 20 people and four instructors (and Im 31!!!). They actually have pages, kids in High School, who can help with the voting process, but there werent any in my class. Mind you, were paid by Fairfax County to do this, way more than minimum wage. But folks simply dont have the time. Well see how I do on voting day. The instructors said it was good I came on an off year. Ill see some crazy stuff on Presidential years.
