Angel did great for scope today and felt fairly well after the procedure. Before the procedure was a different story with severe bone pain in his legs, hips, spine, sternum, and shoulder blades - these are all the places that the bone marrow produces white blood cells. The good news about the pain is that it means his counts are coming up. The transplanted intestine looked about the same overall. We will need to wait for biopsy results to hear how it looks on a cellular level. (They look at cell details to determine rejection and do stains for virus.) He required a lot of platelets today as well. After his scope Angel asked his primary Transplant GI doctor to walk and talk with him back up to his room. He had been wanting to ask him a very serious question for quite some time and was waiting for the right moment. He wanted to know if he could eat a little bit on his birthday. The doctor immediately answered yes and Angel began planning what he would eat. He is thinking Top Ramen or Cheese pizza. And licking the frosting on his cake. :) Angel motioned his doctor back over with his finger and had him lean in saying Youre the BEST, Dr. V. So we had a content boy this evening looking even MORE forward to his 15th birthday as he will be able to eat a little for the first time in a very, very long time. Prayers are for NO fevers. NO pain. NO bleeding. Healing of the transplanted small intestine. Lower outputs. Counts to stay up so his immune system can fight for itself. And happy days while we push toward healing.
