Anglican Diocese of Upper Shire - Malawi Dear Brothers and Sisters in the LORD, Some of the Malawis districts have just been declared Disaster Areas by the State President - Arthur Peter Mutharika yesterday the 13th of January, 2015, due to the continued flooding as a result of heavy down pours we have received for the past week up to now. We are in a state of emergency and it is ideal that as a Church we respond to issues affecting our people. We have and shall continue appealing for internal and external support in the matters related to this tragedy. Please, you are all encouraged to support the needy people. I therefore urge you at local mlaga, outstation, parish and archdeaconry levels to respond to the people needs. Remember we are a CHURCH and the need to help or provide support are mandated by GOD to us, His children. It is therefore my honour to appoint a DDC (Diocesan Disaster Committee) with immediate effect to address some of the needs at a Diocesan Level. The names are as follow: 1. The Reverend Canon Francis Chipala -Vicar General and Chairman, 2. Mrs. Brenda Maganga - Secretary 3. Mr. Clement Frank - Treasurer 4. The Reverend Father Tito Lezile -Member 5. Mr. Victor Mnelemba - Member 6. The Reverend Father Reuben Mbwana Further to that all Archdeacons are ex-officios and are hereby asked to provide: a. Data - how many people have been affected in your areas. This information can be sourced locally in the parishes through Parish Priests or from the local District Commissioners. b. Submit such data to the Committee through the Secretary. c. Suggest what sort of help is needed. What are the immediate needs to be addressed? Hoping all shall respond by Friday 16th of January 2014 by 16:30 Hours. Please feel free to help us with more wisdom on how we can be a relevant Church to the people whom we serve.
