Animal Cruelty Exposed Liked · 12 hours ago Gadhimai Mela - The Largest Sacrifice "Blood sacrifice still occurs in Hinduism on a mass scale. There is an incredibly gory Hindu festival called the ‘Gadhimai Mela’ that occurs in the Bara district of southern Nepal every 5 yrs. The last ‘Gadhimai Mela’ was in November 2009, an estimated 500,000 animals were sacrificed (by beheading) with over 5 million Hindu devotees observing these rites in honor of the Hindu goddess ‘Gadhimai’. It was explained to me by a local Brahmin that the water buffaloes & the other animals sacrificed represent different sorts of ‘evils’ & somehow sacrificing to the goddess Gadhimai will balance out evil & bring prosperity. Most of the devotees are Madhesi people from India in Uttar Pradesh & Bihar as well as the Terai in Nepal; many Sikhs have been spotted actively sacrificing animals too. In 2009, more than 20,000 water buffaloes were sacrificed on just the 1st day of the ‘Gadhimai Mela’. According to a friend of mine who is active in PETA it is quite horrific, around 200 men behead the animals in a concrete temple/abbatoir. My PETA pal was threatened when seen photographing the festivities and his camera partially broken. Most Hindus still deny there is ‘blood sacrifice’ in their religion, but I’ve seen both animal & a few human remains of temple sacrifices to Hindu goddesses. One was an 7 yr old girl in India - her liver was cut out & offered in a Hindu temple to a goddess. India has an actual law against human sacrifice so you know it’s been an issue. We are due for another ‘Gadhimai Mela’ in November 2014."
