Annie is leaving the hospital! Why is this a big deal? Well - TopicsExpress

Annie is leaving the hospital! Why is this a big deal? Well because this was no ordinary vet visit and Annie is no ordinary dog. There are no words to describe my gratitude to Green Country Veterinary Hospital for the compassion and care Annie received here. Miracle Annie: Now that I am confident this story will have a happy ending I want to share the story of the puppies I recently rescued and their parents. About a month ago I was asked to rescue a German Shepherd from a local shelter. She was obviously lactating but the whereabouts of her puppies were unknown. Her owner called the shelter to see if she was there and claimed not to know anything about where or when she had puppies. A week later he had still not picked her up. We again were set to bring her here. 12 minutes before her stray hold was up the owner showed to claim her. He admitted to having 9 puppies and was convinced to surrender them to us. Believing it was not in her best interest to go back, officials tried to convince the owner to surrender the mama Annie but he refused. I went to picked up the puppies who had been left in the back yard completely neglected while mama Annie was in the shelter. They were in awful shape and some barely alive. It was clear this hell hole was no place for a pet of any kind. I talked to owners about responsible pet ownership and what was required hoping they would realize they could not provide even the minimum needs. Again they refused. Flash forward to this week. Reports of a dead dog in the neighborhood were made, officials responded and sadly it was Annie...but she was not dead and struggling to crawl. They rushed her straight to Green Country Vet Hospital. I will spare you the horrific details of what was discovered about her condition and what she went through the first few days but the efforts to save her were of heroic proportion. Her body temperature had dropped well beyond anything they had ever successfully revived. Well evidently Annie is a very strong girl and gradually began to respond. The first day I got to see her she laid there unresponsive but clinging to life. I rubbed her sweet face and told her her puppies were safe and she would be too. She began to struggle, raised her head slightly and looked my way with a blank distance stare. The staff was excited because she had not moved on her own since she arrived. Was it coincidence or did she recognize my voice as the person who saved her precious puppies and promised to come back for her as soon as the owners came to their senses or legal action would intervene? I dont know but that day she began to turn the corner and literally come from the brink of death. Today I will bring her home where she will be loved and pampered as she continues to recover. When she is ready she will be available for adoption through Cimarron Valley Humane Society. Her adoption fee is $150. The POS owners were also forced to surrender the father of the puppies. His name is Romeo, a very sweet and loving lab /pittie mix, less than a year old, he is in the Sapulpa shelter in need of a foster home and receiving rescue. cimarronvalleyhumanesociety.wordpress/adoption-application/
