Annie wrote--For those of you that have had surgery to deal with redundant skin...I have seen mentioned that some of you have had it done by a plastic surgeon. If the revision is isolated to only deal with redundant skin, is a plastic surgeon going to do a better job than an orthopedic surgeon? I have surgery scheduled for the 11th of August. My entire remaining residual limb is a gelatenous floppy mess, making it extremely difficult to fit a prosthetic and then don a prosthetic. I have a really thick layer of skin at the very end that gets smashed up when trying to don, making it really painful to push past the hourglass shape of my prosthetic. I would like a really clean incision line. I am pretty unschooled in this an want to make the right choice so I only have to do it once. Also, does insurance usually cover it if it is a medical necessity?
