Announcing the George Washington Carver Art & Essay Contest DIAMOND, MO –George Washington Carver National Monument announces the annual Art & Essay Contest! Open to all fourth graders in the four-state region, this program encourages research and creativity through essay writing and creating original artwork, based on the theme: If I could take a morning nature walk with George Washington Carver, I would . . . Held during Black History Month, Art and Essay helps students learn more about the life of George Washington Carver. Contest information is available on the park website at nps.gov/gwca. Please call the park if you would like to receive materials by mail. Entries must be received or postmarked by February 12, 2015. Please mail or bring entries to: George Washington Carver National Monument 5646 Carver Road Diamond, MO 64840 An awards ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, March 28th 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the park visitor center. Certificates, ribbons, and trophies will be awarded. Please join teachers, parents, park staff, and volunteers in honoring participating students. Art and Essay is sponsored in partnership with the Carver Birthplace Association and Missouri Southern State University Department of Teacher Education. A Call to Action Strategic Plan charts a path toward the 2016 centennial of the National Park Service. One action concept, Live and Learn, provides multiple ways for children to learn about the national parks and what they reveal about the nation’s history. Art & Essay encourages research and creative responses.
