►Annual Convocation of Priests Dear Friends in Christ, This week is the Annual Convocation of Priests of the Diocese of Grand Rapids`. That means that (almost) all of the priests of the Diocese will be heading up north for a few days. What do we actually do while we are away? Other than perhaps secret priest things? (Note: There are no secret priest things.) Fundamentally, this is a chance for all of the priests to come together as brother priests for rest, rejuvenation, and ongoing formation. One of the things that I appreciate about our Annual Convocation is that one of the evenings is dedicated to honoring the men celebrating milestone anniversaries of ordination. It is a beautiful opportunity to say thank you to the men who have given so many years of their lives in service to God and the Church. To me personally, it is a reminder that I walk in the shoes of the giants who have gone, and still go, before me in the priesthood. Another aspect is rest and rejuvenation. Priests are human too, and the demands of ministry mean that we need to have time for rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation. And the Convocation of Priests means that we get to do those things with our brother priests. So, while we are gone for a few days, please continue to hold all of us in prayer.
