Spring represents equality and balance. It is a time of change, new beginnings and birth. For these reasons, spring was chosen as the time to hold the first National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NNHAAD) in 2007”. This year is the 5th Annual Not Simply Red HIV/AIDS Awareness Day that honors the sixth national observance. Yet, HIV increases among Native people. This day will challenge us to work together, in harmony, to create a greater awareness of the risk of HIV/AIDS to our Native communities. We must increase our call for resources, for testing and early detection and for increased treatment options, so as to eventually decrease the occurrence of HIV/AIDS among Native people. 1. Each year, we are reminded anew of just how possible prevention of HIV/AIDS is here in Pima County. Won’t you come celebrate our successes and help us raise the hope of reducing this disease?
